Sant Aniol de Finestres Church (10th century)

Sant Aniol de Finestres Church (10th century)

High in the Vall de Llémena, Sant Aniol de Finestres is a quiet corner, where visitors can enjoy the natural beauty offered by the surroundings. The oldest documents referring to the church date back to 979. However, it may even date back to the Pre-Romanesque period. It is square, and has a large window on each side. The apse is surrounded by lesenes. The bell tower rises from beside the frontispiece, and has a pyramidal roof. The interior consists of a central nave and side aisles which connect by means of large arcades. The successive alterations to the church removed virtually all evidence of the building's Romanesque origins, with those remaining in the 11th century apse.
