Protected Areas
The Vall de Llémena has three areas that belong to the Plan for Areas of Natural Interest (PEIN): the Rocacorba mountain, the Banya del Boc extinct volcanic and the Finestres mountain range, which belongs to the volcanic area of the Garrotxa. Also, the extinct volcanoes Puig d'Adri, Clot de l'Omera and Puig de la Banya del Boc are included in the inventory of areas of geological interest. The Puig de les Medes is within the limits of the eruptions that came from the Garrotxa when it was active, and it is the only in the valley classified as a Natural Reserve.
As well as all of these classified and protected areas, we should also highlights other areas of natural interest and corridors defined in the Catalogue of Areas of Natural and Scenic Interest of the Regions of Girona, written and published by the Diputació de Girona (Girona’s local government) in 2009. For example, there are the chestnut groves in the areas of Encies and Siubés, the crags at Sant Roc and Rocafesa, Barroca, Sant Grau mountain and Malesa hill.
