Joan Margarit i Pau (Girona 1422 - Roma 1484).
The relation of Sant Gregori with the Cardinal Gregory Margarit lies in the strong house of Margarit, popularly known as the Castle of St. Gregory. The Margarit family used to pass holidays on this summer residence.
Known as Cardinal Margarit, Joan Margarit was very important in the court of Aragon, being a ecclesiastical and political consultant during the reign of John II and Fernando the Catholic.
In 1462 Joan Margarit was appointed Bishop of Girona for twenty-two years. In late 1483 Sixtus IV made him cardinal of the Roman Church. He lived in the Italian capital until his death in 1484.
