Santa Afra (XVIII-XX)
Santa Afra (XVIII-XX)
An important sanctuary and place of pilgrimage and gathering, the church was built in 1760 where there used to be the old oratory of Mare de Déu dels Àngels, and later Verge de les Neus. It is dedicated to the Germanic Saint Afra, who is said to have been converted to Christianity by Saint Narcissus (a former Bishop of Girona). The church has a nave and side chapels, and despite being nearly 250 years old, a large part of the building owes its existence to alterations at the beginning of the 20th century which added an atrium with three rounded arches and a square bell tower, crowned with a dome and a cross. On its left there are guest rooms, from the 18th century, renovated and expanded in recent years. The guest rooms are currently closed.
