Sant Medir Church (9th, 11th, 18th and 19th centuries)
Sant Medir Church (9th, 11th, 18th and 19th centuries)
The origin of Sant Medir church lies in the 9th century monastic community, which moved to Amer in 949, leaving Sant Medir as a parish. The church retains the structure of the Romanesque building from the 11th century, with a nave a semicircular apse, with lesenes on the outside. In the 18th century, however, a significant restoration gave the church its current form, with side chapels and a sober façade, whilst the bell tower, with an overhang, pinnacles and a pyramidal roof, is from the 19th century. Since the 80s to the start of the 21st century the church was a space of worship for a community of Cistercian monks from Santa Maria de Cadins who used the rectory of the church as a monastery.
